GOVERNMENT SCHEMES FOR LACTATING AND PREGNANT WOMEN – MUST READ

The Indian government has introduced numerous schemes to support the health, development and growth of pregnant and lactating mothers. However, many women remain unaware of these initiatives missing out on valuable benefits. Who can benefits ?

Integrated child development scheme ( ICDS)

Initiated from 2nd October , 1975 and sponsored by central government under ministry of women and child development, this scheme runs through Anganwadi centres and hence , Anganwadi is the heart of ICDS.

AIMS – To improve nutritional and health status of children and to promote safe motherhood.

WHO CAN BENEFITS

SERVICES

  • supplementary nutrition for children below 6 years, pregnant women and nursing mothers. Where , children are given more than one meal at Anganwadi and pregnant and nursing women are given take home rashan .
  • Non formal and preschool education for children of 3-6 years.
  • Free immunization to childrens and pregnant womens to fight against deseases.
  • Health check ups and referral services which include weight check up and free calcium iron tablets to pregnant womens.

Pradhan mantri matru vandana yojana( PMMVY)

Implemented on with effect in 1st Jan, 2017. The central government scheme to give 5000 to pregnant womens to economical weaker section. The scheme aims to give financial help to pregnant and lactating mothers. This support mothers to care for their children during pregnancy and even after delivery.

WHO ARE ELIGIBLE ?

  • womens belonging to schedule castes and scheduled tribes
  • Womens who are partially or fully disabled
  • Women holder of BPL ration card
  • Women farmers who are beneficiaries under Kishan Samman Nidhi
  • Pregnant and lactating AWWs /AWHs/ ASHAs
  • Women whose net family income is less than Rs. 8 lakhs per annum

HOW TO APPLY

Offline – U can apply with only adhar card with ration card and bank passbook. Go to the nearest anganvadi to enroll. The presence of pregnant women is must .

Online – visit www.pmmvy.wcd.gov.in Fill the form and upload the necessary documents.

BENEFITS – Rs. 5000/- to first born child and Rs.6000/- to second born girl child . It is given in two installments. First, during pregnancy =3000/- and second during the registration of birth certificate of born child. =2000/-

janani suraksha yojana (j.s.y)

It is a safe motherhood intervention under India’s National Health Mission ( NHM) launched in April 2005. The yojana has identified Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA ) as an effective link b/w the government and pregnant women.

AIM– promoting institutional ( health centre) delivery and to reduce maternity and infact mortality rate .

WHO CAN APPLY – all the pregnancy women belonging to below poverty line (BPL) and ST categories.

HOW TO APPLY – apply from directorate of Health and Family Welfare.

MATRI AWAM BAL SURAKSHA CARD / MOTHER AND CHILD PROTECTION CARD)

It is provided by government of India to spread awareness and health services to unreached groups of pregnant women and children. This card acts as a guide book of services like antenatal care, postnatal care, immunization, growth monitoring, referrals and deliveries.

PRADHAN MANTRI SURAKSHIT MATRITVA ABHIYAN / PRIME MINISTER SAFE MOTHERHOOD CAMPAIGN

It’s aim is to reduce maternity and infant deaths by ensuring comprehensive and quality antenatal care for all pregnant womens.

ELIGIBILITY– all pregnant womens in their second and third trimester.

BENEFITS

  • In the 9th day of every months , antenatal care is routinely provided to pregnant women, special ANC services are provided by OBGY specialist/radiologist/ physicians at the government health facilities under ( PMSMA).
  • Using the principal of a single window system, it is envisage that a minimum package of investigation and medicine such as IFA and calcium supplements would be provided to all pregnant women attending the PMSMA clinics.
  • One of the critical component of the Abhiyan is identifying and follow- up of high- risk pregnancies and red sticker are added on to the mother and child protection card of women with high risk preganancy.

Green sticker = for women with no risk factor .

Red sticker = for women with high risk factor .

Blue sticker = for pregnancy induced by hypertension

Yellow sticker = for co-morbidities

HOW TO APPLY – visit the nearest government health facilities on the 9th day of every months .

National creche scheme .

It was implemented from 2017 under the ministry of women and child development to provide creche facilities where creche is a centre to care for toddlers . It provide creche facilities to the children from 6 months to 6 years of working women . The creche should be open for 26 days in a month and for 7 and a half hours per day.

AIM – to improve nutritional and health conditions of the children.

ELIGIBILITY – children of 6 months to 6 years of women working in rural and urban areas for a minimum period of 15 days in a month and 6 months in a year.

Mukhyamantri Rajashri Yojana (rajasthan)

It was first started in 1st June, 2016 in Rajasthan. It promise to provide 50,000 to eligible girls . All the children girl born after 2016 are eligible for this scheme.

AIM

  • Promote the education of girls
  • Improve the health and social status of girls .
  • Encourage a positive mindset towards girls in society.
  • Address gender bias.

BENEFITS – parents of the girl child is promised to provide 50,000 rupees in the following installment

  • 2,500/- after the birth of girl child at the time to leave from the hospital
  • 2,500/- when the girl turn 1 year
  • 4000/- rupees during the admission in class 1 in any school of the state.
  • 5000/- rupees during the admission in class 6 in any school of the state.
  • 11,000/- during class 10th
  • 25,000/- upon passing the 12th class.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Girls that are born on 1st June , 2016 or afterwards.
  • Only the residential of Rajasthan
  • Limited to two girl born child
  • Only those are eligible whose immunization is done as per the guidelines of the mother and child protection card

HOW TO APPLY – physical form from giver hospita, Jila parishad, Gram Panchayats or Government health care centre. Fill the form and attach the required documents and photos submit and return back after filling the form to the centre from where you took the form.
